Bénédictine Liqueur is composed of 27 different plants and spices, producing four different “Esprits”, these are blended and matured for eight months in oak barrels, releasing and mixing their essences. For the final blend, honey and saffron are added in order to obtain its amber hue, the liquor goes back into the oak barrels for another 4 months for further maturation.
A classic digestive made from a blend of 130 herbs in 55% wine matured in oak barrels for three years, which gives its natural color. The name of the herbs and distillation process is a secret well kept by the Carthusian Monks, they are the only ones who know the recipe.
